Aronia Berry / Choke Berry

Relatively new to South Africa, the Aronia berry is gaining a lot of popularity for its super fruit status, ornamental value in the garden and ease of maintenance.  With a relatively low (1m) and wide (2.5m) growth habit, they can be grown in garden beds or as low hedges and are ideal for small gardens.  They can even be grown in pots on sunny balconies.  They are very resilient plants and will adapt to most soils.  They are also very resistant to drought, insect pests and diseases.  Aronia berries are self-pollinating and bear tangy, edible fruit in autumn, perfect to eat fresh or use in juices, jams, baking, syrups, desserts and pies.
