Portulacaria macrophylla is a larger leafed subspecies of Portulacaria afra. These are very sculptural, evergreen succulent plants that can be used as low hedges, for screening, in rockeries, containers and even as bonsai. The leaves are edible and can be used in salads or eaten whole to quench thirst and to treat a sore throat.
