The aristocrat of pears, Buerre Bosch is an old heirloom variety originating from France. The tree is a strong grower with a semi-upright growth habit. From late February to early March, it bears classically shaped pears with long necks and rough, golden-brown skin. The flesh is firm with an excellent aromatic sweet and juicy taste. It is very popular for desserts, baking and fresh eating. Pears make excellent topiary or espalier specimens. They also do well in pots, provided they are watered regularly. Pear ‘Buerre Bosch’ is not self-pollinating and needs cross-pollination with ‘Bon Chretien’ or ‘Abate Fettel’.
