The Satsuma is one of the easiest to grow and cold hardiest Mandarin type citrus. It produces large, round fruit with a dark orange, easy to peel skin. The fruit ripens from March to April and is tender and sweet with a slight tanginess. The tree is thronless and slow-growing, forming a small to medium sized tree. It is very well suited to grow in a large pot. If planted in a small garden, it can be used as an ornamental shade tree.
