The Stella Cherry – botanical name, Prunus x avium cultivar “STELLA” – is a self pollination variety. It produces clusters of dark red, medium sized cherries. The flesh has a moderate firm, coarse texture and a good, sweet flavour. The fruit ripens from end November, and it tends to be slow growing but vigorous in the right growing conditions.
It has an upright then spreading growth habit with a height & spread size of about 4m by 4m.
This is an excellent small tree for small gardens. Cherries are quite difficult to grow and will require special growing conditions. They prefer areas with mild Summers and very cold frosty Winters. Not suited to areas with hot, dry Summers. Enjoys slightly acidic soil and require very little pruning.
Keep moist at all times during the growing season
Feed monthly with a pelletised manure & 6:1:5 fertiliser
