As they say “voor ek jou oopmond soen, sê vir my kan jy braaibroodjies maak?!”
The braaibroodjie (braaied toasted sandwich) is the perfect addition to any braai – as a breakfast braai, compliment to the main meat attraction or an afternoon snack whilst the evening braai is being prepared.
What you will need:
- Sliced white bread
- Salt and Pepper
- Grated cheese
- Sliced tomatoes
- Sliced onion
What you do:
- Butter one side of all the slices of bread.
- Take half the slices and place butter side down, spread chutney & sprinkle cheese and a few slices of tomatoes and onions on each slice of bread.
- Add salt and pepper for extra flavour.
- Cover with the other half of the bread slices, buttered side facing outwards.
Ensure that you have gentle heat for your braaibroodjies, so cook these after the coals have cooled down, on a braai with few coals or to the side of your normal braai where the heat is less.
Place your broodjies (sandwich’s) into a Sandwich Braai Grid or if you do not have one just straight onto the braai grid (The Sandwich Braai Grid makes for easy turning and removing of the braaibroodjies).
It is important to turn your braaibroodjies often, you will see when the bread is golden and the cheese is melted that they are ready.
